Silenced No More Foundation Endorses FTC Whistleblower Act of 2021

ftc whistleblower act of 2021

The Silenced No More Foundation joins other whistleblower advocacy groups to endorse the FTC Whistleblower Act of 2021 sponsored by Representative Jan Schakowsky. The FTC Whistleblower Act of 2021 (H. R. 6093) would provide incentives for whistleblowers and offer protection under the Federal Trade Commission.

In a letter addressed to Chairman Representative Frank Pallone, Ranking Member Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers, and other members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, more than a dozen whistleblower advocacy groups urged the passing of the FTC Whistleblower Act of 2021.

If enacted, the legislation would provide best practices for whistleblower protection routinely passed by Congress in the last 20 years and also offer incentives for those who blow the whistle. Click here to view the detailed list of protections and incentives.

Whistleblowers have been instrumental in creating a more ethical society.  Since the creation of the 2010 Dodd Frank Act, which created a whistleblower incentives program, more than five billion dollars has been recovered by the government in criminal and fraudulent activity thanks to the assistance of whistleblowers.

The newly proposed legislation would provide similar incentives but under the FTC’s jurisdiction and it seems it would be well-received with society at large. A recent poll showed that 86-percent of Republican and Democratic voters support whistleblower protections. This Act would be a bipartisan leap forward for federal whistleblower protections.
